Westmeyer, Wilhelm
1832-1880
German composer; author of the Kaiser Overture that is
performed by the united military bands of Vienna every year on the birthday of
the Austrian Emperor. Westmeyer was born at Iburg, Prussia; died at Bonn. He
studied at the Leipsic Conservatory, later was a pupil of Lobe, devoted his
attention to composition; was author of the two operas, Amanda, and Der Wald
bei Hermannstadt; wrote songs, quartets and symphonies.
