Vulpius, Melchoir

1560-1616

Born at Wasungen. In 1600 he became cantor at Weimar, which position he held until his death. He was a theorist and composer of churchmusic, and his works show him to be a strong contrapuntist. He published two books of Cantiones sacrse; Kirchen-Gesange und geistliche Lieder Dr. Luthers u. a. mit vier und fünf Stimmen; Erster Theil der sonnataglichen Eyangelischen Sprüche von vier Stimmen; also a new edition of Heinrich Faber's Compendiolum musicae with German translations and some additional chapters of his own; Musicae compendium latino-germanicum M. Henrici Fabri, etc.
