Villoing, Alexander

Russian pianist; born at St. Petersburg, where he also
died. He became celebrated as a teacher of piano and had many famous pupils,
among them Anton and Nicholas Rubinstein. When Anton made his debut in 1841 at
Paris Villoing assisted. He has published his system of instruction in a work
entitled ficole Pratique du Piano, which contains very ingenious and practical
exercises. Among his compositions the most pretentious is a concerto.
